2025 Spring Select Selection Process

Thank you for your interest in the YCGS Select program!

Rules/Regulations:

  1. Potential eligible divisions: 8U through 14U. USA Softball does not recognize a Spring 16/18U division.
  2. Players must be registered for YCGS Spring 2025 recreational season to be eligible for Spring 2025 Select.
  3. Rosters for select will range from 10-14 players per team, and is at the discretion of the Select manager and YCGS All-Star/Select Committee.
  4. Divisional tryouts will be conducted for the selection of each Select Team. The tryout date will be posted by the league and is open to all players in good standing, currently registered for the Spring 2025 season. Parents must attend a mandatory parent meeting prior to tryouts and sign a Select program commitment agreement.
  5. Players must not be participating in any travel ball activities (games, practices, clinics, etc) after January 1st, 2025 to be eligible to play Spring Select. Players found to be participating in travel ball activities after 1/1/25 will be removed from the select program and will be prohibited from participating in future select/All-star seasons.

**Also, please be aware players must cease travel ball participation as of March 31st, 2025 if they wish to be eligible for 2025 All Stars. This date is subject to change and is determined by USA Softball.

  1. Players MUST try out for their age-appropriate division, based on the date of birth as of September 1st 2024, regardless of the division played during the spring season. Players are permitted to try out for the division above their age-appropriate division, however priority will be given to the younger team for first choice.
  2. Players that are chosen to the Spring Select team must attend a minimum of 75% of their recreational spring team’s events (practices/games). Failure to do so can result in the player being removed from the Select team.
  3. Player/Parents must commit to ALL Spring Select travel, time, and financial commitments BEFORE the final roster is approved. This is outlined in the parent/player commitment agreement.

Selection process:

  1. Select tryouts are open to current YCGS 2025 Spring registered players. Not every player that participates in tryouts is guaranteed to make a Select team. It is inevitable and unfortunate that some “Select worthy” players will not be able to be placed on the Select roster due to space allowed.

    ·  There is no guarantee that all divisions will have a Select team for 2025. Factors taken into consideration include available managers/coaches, as well as adequate pitchers/catchers to compete with the high-level of play. ONE PITCHER/CATCHER IS NOT ADEQUATE FOR A SELECT TEAM. Likewise, having enough players does not necessarily mean the team is ready to compete against other leagues. If it is determined that a specific division does not have the necessary players to adequately compete against other leagues, it is possible that specific division(s) may not create a Spring Select team for 2025. This includes creating “silver” teams as well.

  2. Tryouts will be evaluated by the respective manager for each division. The tryout may consist of, but is not limited to, an evaluation of the player’s fielding, hitting, running, and pitching/catching if applicable.
  3. Following tryouts, the Select Manager for each division will submit a roster with players of his/her choice. This roster will be reviewed by the YCGS All Star/Select committee and the YCGS Board President for approval.
  4. It is possible that the 12/14U divisions may be combined.
  5. Players will be notified via email on whether they made a Select team.
  6. Practices will begin immediately after tryouts.
